Welcome to Hillsboro!

On behalf of the Town of Hillsboro, I’m delighted to welcome garden-loving visitors to “The Gap” as we usher in spring by opening an eclectic array of Hillsboro Historic District gardens, porches, backyards and historic homes for tour. From formal boxwood gardens to rambling English countryside-like perennial beds to container gardens and creative outdoor entertainment areas—there’s something for everyone.

Hillsboro’s Gardens in The Gap weekend kicks off Friday night with an Eat, Drink & Be Literary! evening featuring authors Peter Hatch and Marc Leepson on the Old Stone School’s Gap Stage. A Conversation about Monticello—Jefferson’s Gardens and Home will offer intriguing insights into one of America’s most iconic places. The doors and bar open at 6 p.m. at Hillsboro’s Old Stone School.

On Saturday, enjoy our garden tours and make sure to reserve your seat at an elegant southern tea—with special bourbon mint juleps on the menu too! And all day long there will be fun, food, drink and music at the Gardens in The Gap Artisan & Plant fair on the grounds of Hillsboro‘s Old Stone School.

All proceeds from Gardens in The Gap support the ongoing restoration and preservation of Hillsboro’s Old Stone School, the heartbeat of Hillsboro since 1874. Thank you for supporting us and thanks to all of our sponsors and tireless volunteers who have made this inaugural event possible.

Enjoy the weekend and come back often to visit us!
